Carson may have served as the 17th United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, but he used to work as a neurosurgeon. He practiced medicine for more than three decades and was appointed director of pediatric surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The doctor-turned-politician retired “at the top of his game” in 2013.
