John Fetterman, the Pennsylvania senator-elect who worked to address unemployment and poverty as the mayor of Braddock, the poorest neighborhood in the region, also wanted to preserve and renovate the dilapidated town buildings so people could return to the declined steel-mill town for a reason.

Fetterman, who took a crucial role in developing urban programs and a new community center, also bought an abandoned warehouse and transformed it into a colorful loft home using salvaged debris. Local graffiti artists were invited to decorate the house and yard. He still lives in that loft-style home with Gisele, his wife, Karl, their son, and their dog, Kale.
